Delhi cab driver arrested for rape and murder of girl near Gurgaon-Faridabad border

The Delhi Police have arrested a 29-year-old cab driver for the abduction, rape, and murder of a 10-year-old girl who was kidnapped from a footpath near a Metro Station in the Mehrauli area of South Delhi, with her body later recovered near the Gurgaon-Faridabad border.
The suspect, identified as Bashu Kumar Singh, was arrested on Monday hours after the incident. On Thursday, police announced they had recovered the murder weapons, which included a cotton towel used to strangulate the victim and a stone used to assault her. Investigators also recovered strands of hair from the suspect’s cab.
According to police sources, Singh was driving toward Gurgaon after dropping off a passenger in South Delhi during the early hours of Monday. At around 3:30 AM, he noticed the victim sleeping alongside her parents and younger sisters on a footpath near the Metro station.
Singh reportedly told investigators that he parked his vehicle and waited for 45 minutes for an opportunity to abduct the child. At approximately 4:15 AM, after the girl rolled away from her parents in her sleep, Singh covered her face, forced her into his running car, and drove off.
The girl's father woke up to the sound of a commotion and heard his daughter cry out, "Papa, save me." However, the suspect managed to speed away before the father could stop the vehicle.
Police stated that Singh took the girl to an isolated spot near a forested area, where he raped her. He then attempted to drive back to the abduction site but turned around after spotting the victim's parents and police officers searching the area.
The suspect then drove toward the Gurgaon-Faridabad border. Police sources said he strangled the girl with a cotton towel and hit her face with a stone to prevent identification before dumping her body near the Aravalli hills.
Following the murder, Singh picked up another passenger and dropped them off in Vikaspuri, West Delhi. Delhi Police personnel arrested him there at around 11:00 AM on Monday, roughly seven hours after the abduction.
