Delhi BJP Chief Harsh Malhotra Announces Reshuffle With 33 Percent Women Representation

NEW DELHI — One month after taking charge of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Delhi state unit, Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra announced a major organizational reshuffle in New Delhi, guaranteeing 33 percent representation for women among the new office-bearers.

The restructuring includes the appointment of new office-bearers for 11 organizational districts and the selection of new mandal presidents. The move aligns with the national leadership's commitment to women's empowerment and aims to bring fresh energy to the party's local operations.

According to Malhotra, who also serves as the Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the transition strictly followed all prescribed norms for appointing office-bearers from scheduled castes. The reorganization has also carved out significant opportunities for younger party workers.

While the updates for 11 districts have been finalized, the party has deferred announcements for certain areas. BJP leaders stated that the new leadership for the north outer Delhi, west Delhi, and Najafgarh organizational zones will be declared at an appropriate time following consultations with their respective district presidents.

Party insiders indicated that such changes are standard when a new state unit president takes the reins. A BJP leader noted that typically 50 to 60 percent of office-bearers are replaced during this process, and further changes are expected in the coming month.

Another senior party functionary, speaking on the condition of anonymity, revealed that a comprehensive overhaul of the Delhi BJP is currently underway. The entire state unit is expected to be completely restructured with newer and younger faces by July.

The newly formed team will face its next major political challenge during the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections scheduled for next year. While the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won the previous municipal elections, subsequent floor crossing by AAP councillors allowed the BJP to regain control of the corporation last year. Malhotra himself brings local governance experience to his role, having previously served as a councillor and as the mayor of the erstwhile East Delhi Municipal Corporation.
