Delhi Assembly Unveils Compiled Speeches Of Dr Asutosh Mookerjee

On Tuesday, Union Health Minister JP Nadda unveiled a compilation of legislative speeches by educationist and jurist Dr. Asutosh Mookerjee at the Delhi Legislative Assembly in New Delhi. The book release, titled "The Collected Speeches of Bengal Tiger Dr Asutosh Mookerjee", coincided with the late leader's 162nd birth anniversary.
The event was attended by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta, Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra, and Delhi Ministers Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, and Pankaj Kumar Singh. Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht, along with several legislators, academicians, and scholars, were also present.
The newly released volume features 32 legislative speeches delivered by Dr. Mookerjee during his tenure in the Imperial Legislative Council. These historical addresses cover a range of subjects, including civil liberties, university autonomy, administrative accountability, and constitutional governance.
Speaking at the unveiling, Union Minister JP Nadda highlighted Dr. Mookerjee’s commitment to India’s civilisational values and intellectual rigour. Nadda remarked that the speeches continue to recharge minds with constitutional values, reasoned debate, and a deep sense of nationalism, comparing the process of intellectual renewal to recharging a mobile phone.
Nadda also noted that many of Dr. Mookerjee's educational ideas align with the current National Education Policy, specifically its focus on Indian languages, value-based education, and the decolonisation of the education system. He encouraged young people and public representatives to study the compilation to connect with the nation's constitutional values.
Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta praised Dr. Mookerjee's contributions to higher education and institution-building. He stated that the publication would allow scholars, students, and future generations to engage directly with Dr. Mookerjee's ideas.
Additionally, Speaker Gupta announced that the Delhi Legislative Assembly is currently digitising and preserving lakhs of pages of historical documents and speeches, which will be released in multiple volumes in the future.
