Delhi approves Rs 264 crore to upgrade 75 CM SHRI schools by 2027

On Thursday, the Delhi government's Expenditure Finance Committee approved Rs 264 crore for the major renovation and upgrade of 75 CM SHRI schools across Delhi. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, which was also attended by PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh, Education Minister Ashish Sood, and senior department officials.
The project aims to completely transform the appearance of the school campuses, with officials setting a target of 2027-end for its completion.
Under the approved proposal, the school buildings will undergo extensive structural and aesthetic upgrades. This includes addressing seepage and dampness through waterproofing, interior and exterior painting, plaster repairs, and the construction or repair of boundary walls and fencing.
The entrance gates of the schools will be revamped to display the new CM SHRI logo alongside the school's name. For boundary walls already in good condition, only minor repairs retaining the grit finish will be performed, while fencing will be painted.
The infrastructure upgrade also focuses on basic amenities and safety. The project will upgrade toilets, drinking water facilities, sewerage, and drainage systems. Rainwater harvesting systems will be repaired, and fire safety measures will be ensured across all campuses.
Classrooms and campus facilities will receive technological and electrical upgrades. Defective LED lights, ceiling fans, exhaust fans, and public address systems will be replaced to ensure effective communication. High-mast lighting will be installed on school premises, and classrooms will be equipped with new wiring, power points, and LAN points.
Multipurpose halls and computer laboratories are slated to be equipped with air-conditioners and stage lighting. Additionally, in-built RO water coolers, LED signage, and upgraded main electrical panels will be installed.
Accessibility features for children with special needs, such as ramps, tactile paths, and handrails, will be integrated into the school designs. CCTV systems, compound lighting, and sports grounds will also see upgrades.
For sports and recreation, basketball courts and playgrounds will be upgraded. Modern outdoor galleries will be developed in playgrounds to facilitate outdoor classes, recreation, and collaborative learning.
Chief Minister Gupta stated that the objective of the project is to develop government schools into modern educational campuses where students have access to a safe, inclusive, technology-enabled, and high-quality learning environment.
