DDA Announces Eight-Point Urban Development Roadmap for Delhi

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has announced an eight-point development roadmap aimed at transforming New Delhi into a sustainable, green, and liveable city. The strategic plan was discussed during a recent meeting of the DDA's Advisory Council, which was chaired by Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, officials reported on Saturday.
The roadmap focuses on addressing several key urban challenges in the national capital, including affordable housing shortages, slum rehabilitation, traffic congestion, pollution, and urban flooding. According to officials, the advisory council adopted a four-pillar roadmap to execute the plan. During the meeting, Lieutenant Governor Sandhu stressed the critical need for planned growth across housing, mobility, environment, and heritage conservation.
A major priority of the discussion was resolving the gap between the demand and supply of affordable housing in the city. The council reviewed the ongoing proliferation of slums and Jhuggi Jhopri (JJ) clusters across Delhi, focusing on necessary measures for their relocation and rehabilitation. Additionally, the council members discussed the long-pending regularisation and redevelopment of unauthorised colonies.
Beyond housing, the meeting highlighted several pressing environmental and infrastructure issues currently impacting Delhi. These challenges include traffic congestion, pollution, urban flooding, and heat island effects. To address these issues, the council discussed the redevelopment of existing urban areas as well as the planned development of land pooling and low-density zones.
The DDA's proposed roadmap aims to balance environmental sustainability with urban growth, ensuring that future development aligns with heritage conservation and improved urban mobility.
