CM Rekha Gupta Orders Upgrades At Burari Transport Office After Surprise Visit

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta conducted a surprise inspection at the Transport Department facilities in Burari on Tuesday, reprimanding officials over poor public amenities and directing them to immediately improve infrastructure and service delivery.
During her visit, Gupta inspected several key facilities within the complex, including the under-construction Automated Testing Station (ATS), the District Transport Office (DTO), the Vehicle Inspection Unit, and the Heavy Motor Vehicle Training Institute.
At the ATS site, the Chief Minister reviewed the ongoing construction work. Officials briefed her that the new automated facility would have the capacity to test five vehicles simultaneously. Once operational, the station is expected to carry out fitness inspections for 80,000 to 90,000 commercial vehicles annually. Gupta instructed the officials to maintain strict quality standards and ensure the project is completed within its designated timeline.
The Chief Minister expressed serious concern over the current state of the DTO office after interacting directly with citizens waiting at the venue. Upon noticing long queues of people waiting outside the office, Gupta pulled up transport department officials and ordered immediate improvements to the public facilities.
After reviewing the overall condition of the DTO complex, Gupta stated that simple repairs would not be enough to address the issues. She directed officials to draw up a comprehensive redevelopment plan for the entire site. According to the Chief Minister, this plan must incorporate better citizen amenities, parking spaces, green areas, administrative offices, and training infrastructure.
Gupta also visited the Vehicle Inspection Unit, where she called for the integration of modern technologies. She emphasized that using advanced systems would make vehicle fitness testing more scientific and transparent.
At the Heavy Motor Vehicle Training Institute, Gupta interacted with both trainees and trainers. During these conversations, she highlighted the critical role that skilled and responsible drivers play in ensuring road safety across the city.
