CISCE Launches ACTIVE CISCE Fitness Drive For 31 Lakh Students

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has rolled out a massive nationwide school-based health and fitness assessment initiative called 'ACTIVE CISCE' for school students in New Delhi and across the country. The ongoing program is set to benefit over 31.2 lakh students from Class I to Class XII across more than 3,300 schools nationwide. At the time of reporting, the council had already achieved an 85 percent completion rate, with 26.5 lakh students having successfully completed their physical assessments.

The primary goal of the ACTIVE CISCE initiative is to integrate physical fitness directly into mainstream education, aligning with the guidelines of the National Education Policy. Through this program, students will receive personalized fitness report cards designed to encourage healthier lifestyles. Beyond individual feedback, the assessments are designed to help schools and authorities identify sporting talent at an early stage. The data collected from these nationwide assessments will also be used to establish national school health and fitness indices, which will support the creation of evidence-based policies and foster holistic student development.

The assessments conducted under the ACTIVE CISCE program are structured to be age-appropriate across different class levels. For younger students in Classes I to III, the evaluations focus on fundamental movement, body management skills, and object control.

For older students in Classes IV to XII, the physical assessments are more rigorous. These students are evaluated on key fitness metrics including speed, flexibility, core strength, body composition, muscular endurance, and cardiovascular endurance.

In an effort to make the fitness drive inclusive, the CISCE is currently developing a separate assessment framework specifically tailored for Children with Special Needs to ensure they are included in the initiative.
