CBI Arrests Northern Railway Chief Materials Manager and Two Others in Delhi Bribery Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested three individuals, including two Northern Railway public servants and a private person, in connection with a bribery case involving the manipulation of railway tenders at the Northern Railway Headquarters in New Delhi. The CBI registered the case on July 3 against a total of six accused individuals and entities.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Narender Singh, who serves as the Chief Materials Manager at the Northern Railway Headquarters, and Lenin Sharma, a Senior Clerk at the same office. The third arrested individual is Shariq Ali, a private person.

The case registered by the CBI on July 3 named six accused, including the Chief Materials Manager, a Deputy Chief Materials Manager, and a Senior Clerk of the Northern Railway Headquarters. It also named a private company and two of its representatives, in addition to other public servants and private persons.

According to the allegations, the accused public servants working at the Northern Railway Headquarters in New Delhi indulged in corrupt practices in collusion with the representatives of the private company. The officials allegedly extended undue favours to the firm during the award of railway tenders in exchange for illegal gratification. These actions were reportedly in direct violation of the prescribed procurement procedures and official norms.

As part of the investigation, the CBI laid a trap and successfully recovered Rs 1 lakh in bribe money. The agency alleged that this amount was handed over by a representative of the private company to the accused Chief Materials Manager, Narender Singh.

Following the trap operation and subsequent arrests, the CBI conducted extensive searches at multiple locations. These searches were carried out across Delhi, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr, and Kanpur. During these raids, the investigative agency recovered several incriminating documents and digital devices related to the procurement and tender process.
