Amit Shah Launches 70 Lakh Tree Drive, Flags Off 300 E-Buses In Delhi

Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a 70 lakh tree plantation drive and flagged off 300 new electric buses in Delhi on Tuesday. During the series of events, Shah also remotely laid the foundation stone for a high-security prison in Narela and inaugurated an automated testing station in Nand Nagri.

The launch events were held in the presence of Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, representing a joint effort to address the city's environmental and infrastructural needs.

The massive tree plantation drive is being organised under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign. According to government officials, the campaign aims to significantly boost the green cover of Delhi and strengthen ongoing efforts to tackle the city's air pollution.

The drive is designed to become a mass movement, with officials encouraging every citizen to plant at least one tree to help make the capital greener and healthier. To make it easier for the public to get involved, an online registration portal has been officially opened to facilitate wide public participation.

Alongside the green initiative, the addition of 300 new electric buses to the Delhi government's public transport fleet is expected to expand transport options for commuters.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta made a public appeal to the residents of the city to actively participate in the tree plantation campaign. Gupta emphasised that the residents of Delhi can no longer accept air pollution as an unavoidable reality and urged everyone to work collectively to improve the city's overall air quality.

The day's program also included infrastructure developments, with Shah remotely laying the foundation stone for the new high-security prison in Narela and inaugurating the automated testing station located in Nand Nagri.
