62-Year-Old Man Stabbed to Death Inside Dhaula Kuan Subway in Southwest Delhi

A 62-year-old man was stabbed to death inside the Dhaula Kuan subway in Southwest Delhi on Thursday morning. The victim, identified as Champai Ho, was fatally attacked around 6:45 AM by a 48-year-old homeless man.
Following the incident, the Delhi Police received a call regarding an injured person lying inside the subway. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Amit Goel stated that police personnel quickly responded to the scene. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.
According to the police, Champai Ho was a resident of East Singhbhum in Jharkhand. He had traveled to Delhi, arriving at the Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station by train. From there, he was slated to travel to Bhiwadi in Rajasthan to resume his employment as a mason.
DCP Goel explained that Champai was crossing the Dhaula Kuan subway to board a bus bound for Bhiwadi when the accused intercepted him and stabbed him multiple times.
The suspect, who is a resident of Bihar’s Banka district, was arrested by the police directly from the crime scene. Authorities have booked him under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Investigators reviewed footage from the CCTV cameras installed inside the subway to understand the circumstances of the attack. The footage revealed that there was no confrontation between the two men prior to the stabbing. Additionally, the video showed that no attempt was made to rob the victim.
DCP Goel confirmed that the victim and the accused were complete strangers and had no prior acquaintance. The police are currently interrogating the suspect to establish the exact sequence of events that led to the fatal attack.
The suspect had previously worked as an auto-rickshaw driver in Delhi. He had since been living as a homeless person in the city. He is married, and his wife and six children live separately in Bihar.
