16-Year-Old Stranded at Pari Chowk Allegedly Gang-Raped in Moving Sleeper Bus

A 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped inside a moving sleeper bus after boarding the vehicle while seeking help at Pari Chowk on the night of August 4, police said on Monday.

According to police officials, the teenager, who belongs to Mainpuri district in Uttar Pradesh, had left her home following a disagreement with her family. She had set out to travel to meet her cousin in Noida. However, amid heavy rain and darkness, she got off at Pari Chowk by mistake and found herself stranded.

While she was waiting in the area, an empty sleeper bus passed by. The stranded teenager signalled the vehicle for assistance. The bus driver, identified as Kuldeep, and the conductor, identified as Sandeep, allegedly informed her that the bus was headed towards Noida Sector 63 and allowed her to board the vehicle.

Police said the conductor allegedly began making obscene advances towards the teenager shortly after the bus started moving. The girl alleged that both the driver and the conductor subsequently raped her inside the bus and threatened to kill her when she resisted the assault.

Investigators noted that the sleeper bus was fitted with curtains around its berths. Police stated that these drawn curtains allegedly assisted the accused in concealing the assault taking place inside during the journey.

The sleeper bus travelled nearly 47 kilometres following the incident before the accused allegedly abandoned the 16-year-old girl near Kashmere Gate.
