Two Lawyers File Complaints Against CJP Activist Over Social Media Posts in Delhi
Two advocates filed police complaints at the Sansad Marg Police Station in New Delhi on Saturday against a CJP activist and her father, accusing them of posting objectionable remarks about Hindu deities on social media.
The complaints were lodged after the activist and her father allegedly failed to meet a 1:00 PM deadline to remove the disputed content from the social media platform X. Police authorities assured the complainants that necessary legal steps would be initiated.
Advocate Amita Sachdeva said she came across old posts on X in which the activist allegedly used the word "vaishya" for Goddess Durga and mocked Goddess Saraswati. Sachdeva stated that she had issued a polite warning on Friday asking for the removal of the posts, stating that insults to deities would not be permitted while maintaining that individuals are free to choose their personal beliefs.
Sachdeva explained that she gave the activist and her father until 1:00 PM on Saturday to delete the material. When neither complied by the deadline, she proceeded to file a formal complaint. She stated that the police assured her that appropriate action would follow.
Advocate Anurag Gupta, who also submitted a complaint against the pair, spoke outside Sansad Marg Police Station regarding the grievance. Gupta stated that people had begun mocking Hindus and abusing deities, urging citizens across the country to wake up from complacency and lodge complaints to deter offensive commentary.
Gupta added that the station house officer (SHO) confirmed the complaint would be registered and further action taken. He stated that if the SHO failed to act, they would escalate the matter to the Deputy Commissioner, and if no action was taken there, they would approach the Supreme Court directly.
The CJP activist issued a sharp response to the police complaints, rejecting the allegations made by the lawyers. Speaking to ANI, she stated that the complainants were raising illegal demands to send her father to jail and urged them not to stoop so low.
