Delhi Police Enforce Road Diversions on Key Routes for BRICS Summit Carcade Drill

The Delhi Traffic Police enforced traffic diversions and regulated vehicular movement across key routes and major arterial roads in the national capital on September 6, 2026, for the BRICS Summit 2026 Motor Carcade rehearsal. The traffic regulations were scheduled to remain active from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM across the city.

The detailed traffic advisory was issued on Saturday ahead of the exercise. The rehearsal was organized as part of wider security and traffic coordination measures being conducted across the city ahead of the international diplomatic gathering.

Earlier on Saturday, the Delhi Traffic Police had also enforced traffic restrictions between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM during carcade rehearsals. Authorities confirmed that traffic diversions and regulated movement were put in place on key routes across Delhi during that rehearsal period as well.

In a traffic advisory shared on X, the Delhi Traffic Police said, "In view of the Motor Carcade Rehearsal on September 6, 2026, from 09:00 AM to 10:00 PM, traffic diversions and regulated movement will be in place across key routes in Delhi. Commuters are advised to plan journeys in advance, allow extra travel time, use public transport, especially Metro, and follow designated diversion routes and instructions from traffic personnel. Emergency and essential-service vehicles will receive priority passage."

The traffic police advised commuters to plan their journeys, keep extra travel time, and prefer Metro and public transport wherever feasible to avoid inconvenience. Motorists were specifically encouraged to utilize the Metro network to bypass affected roads.

Traffic officials instructed drivers to strictly follow designated diversion routes and comply with instructions issued by on-ground traffic personnel. "Follow designated diversion routes and instructions of traffic personnel," the Delhi Traffic Police reiterated in the advisory, urging people to avoid unnecessary travel through affected routes during the rehearsal period.

The department also confirmed that emergency and essential-service vehicles would receive priority passage throughout the regulated corridors while the drills were underway.

The motor carcade drills are taking place in preparation for the 18th BRICS Summit, which will be held on September 12 and 13 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. As BRICS Chair 2026, India will be hosting the summit, bringing together leaders of BRICS Member and Partner Countries as well as Outreach Invitees.
