PM Narendra Modi Attends SRCC Centenary Celebrations at Delhi University

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the centenary celebrations of Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) at Delhi University in New Delhi on Saturday, marking the historic 100-year anniversary of the premier institution.

The visit marked Modi's return to the college 13 years after his widely discussed earlier visit to the campus. Addressing an audience of current students and alumni, the Prime Minister reflected on the institution's century-long legacy and commended its graduates for establishing their presence across diverse sectors globally.

Giving a nod to contemporary youth slang, Modi referred to the college's former students as the original trail-blazers. "Aapki bhasha mein yahan ke alumni OG hain (In Gen Z terms, your seniors were OGs)," Modi told the gathering, praising successive generations of graduates who have taken the SRCC name across the world. He added with a touch of humour, "Dhurandhar ho na ho, par dhoom machayi hai" (Whether they are stalwarts or not, they have certainly made a mark).

During his address, Modi reminisced about the late former Union minister Arun Jaitley, who was an alumnus of the institution. Modi shared that he frequently heard memories and stories about the college from Jaitley during their interactions, remarking that there was hardly a meeting when the former minister did not narrate an incident related to SRCC, at times repeating the same anecdotes.

Characterising the 100-year milestone as a "very historic" occasion, the Prime Minister welcomed generations of students and former students associated with the institution. He also noted the institution's origins, observing that the college's journey began from a modest space in Daryaganj before growing into one of the country's foremost commerce institutions. Modi observed that even now, simply saying "SRCC" is enough to make a statement within Delhi University.
