Two Arrested for Alleged Gang-Rape of Teen in Moving Bus from Pari Chowk

A 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped inside a moving sleeper bus after boarding the vehicle at Pari Chowk on the night of August 4, police said on Monday. Police subsequently arrested the bus driver, Kuldeep, and the conductor, Sandeep, from a bus parking area in Timarpur and seized the vehicle.

The teenager, hailing from Mainpuri district, had left home following a disagreement with her family and set out to meet her cousin in Noida. Amid heavy rain and darkness, she got off at Pari Chowk by mistake. Stranded and seeking help, she signalled an empty sleeper bus passing through the area.

According to police, the driver and conductor told her that the bus was headed towards Noida Sector 63 and allowed her to board. Soon after the bus began moving, the conductor allegedly started making obscene advances towards the girl.

The girl stated in her complaint that both men subsequently raped her and threatened to kill her when she resisted. Police said curtains around the berths inside the sleeper bus allegedly helped the accused conceal the assault as the vehicle moved.

The bus travelled nearly 47 kilometres before the accused allegedly abandoned the teenager on Ring Road near the Kashmere Gate bus terminal late at night and fled. The victim then approached the Kashmere Gate police to report the incident.

Police traced and arrested Kuldeep and Sandeep from Timarpur and sent the seized bus for forensic examination.

Investigators said the bus had earlier broken down and was parked at a workshop in Himgiri, Surajpur, from July 27 to August 4 for sensor-related repairs. Monu Gupta, manager of the travel company, said the bus left Himgiri around 5pm on August 4 and was moved again at 9pm with instructions to head to Timarpur before Delhi authorities reported the seizure the following morning. Further investigation is underway.
