10-Year-Old Girl Dies After Being Made to Stand in Sun at Vinod Nagar School

A 10-year-old student of Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya in Delhi's Vinod Nagar died last week during medical treatment after she was allegedly forced to stand in the sun as punishment for forgetting to bring a textbook to class, police sources said.

The incident took place on August 27 at the government school. According to the family's statement cited by police, the young girl had forgotten to carry a book to school that day. In response, her teacher instructed her to stand outside under the harsh sun as a disciplinary measure.

While undergoing the punishment, the child's health deteriorated rapidly. School authorities subsequently reached out to the girl's family and summoned her mother, Anjali, to the school.

Upon arriving at the premises, Anjali alleged that she discovered her daughter standing outside under the intense sun, visibly unwell and in poor health. The girl was then taken to a hospital for urgent medical attention.

The student died during the course of her treatment at the hospital last week. Police confirmed that they have initiated an inquiry into the matter and are currently probing the allegations leveled against the school staff.

Following the girl's death, her family members and relatives staged a protest demanding strict legal action against the accused school authorities.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ravinder Singh Negi reached the protest site to meet the grieving family. Negi assured the family members that anyone found guilty in connection with the incident would be held accountable.
