Man Rescued From Yamuna in Kalindi Kunj After Jumping Over iPhone EMI Stress

A 30-year-old dance teacher was rescued from the Yamuna river near Bhola Ghat in southeast Delhi's Kalindi Kunj area on Friday night after he allegedly jumped into the water due to financial distress caused by his inability to pay monthly instalments on an iPhone.
The incident took place at around 8:30 pm on Friday. Police personnel who were on patrol duty in the area were alerted by witnesses that a man had jumped into the river from near the ghat.
Upon receiving the alert, a police team reached the spot and informed the flood department. A rescue team soon arrived at the scene with a boat to initiate search efforts. The team spotted the man in the river and managed to bring him to safety.
Police identified the man as Deepak Kumar, a resident of Sanjay Colony in Okhla. Kumar works as a dance teacher and also takes up gardening jobs. He lives with his wife and two children in Sanjay Colony.
During questioning by the police, Kumar stated that his income had declined over the past few months. The reduction in earnings made it difficult for him to continue paying the monthly instalments on his iPhone. The mounting financial pressure caused him considerable stress, prompting him to take the extreme step, according to officials.
Following the rescue operation, police officers counselled Kumar. The authorities also contacted his family members, calling his wife and brother-in-law to the police station before allowing him to return home.
