Dance Teacher Rescued From Yamuna in Kalindi Kunj Over Unpaid iPhone EMIs

A 30-year-old dance teacher was rescued from the Yamuna river after he jumped into the water from a ghat in Kalindi Kunj on Friday night due to financial distress over unpaid iPhone EMIs, Delhi Police said.
The man, identified as Deepak Kumar, a resident of Okhla in southeast Delhi, jumped into the river around 8:30 pm. Policemen on patrol in the Kalindi Kunj area spotted him leaping off the ghat and immediately alerted a rescue team.
Kumar was seen struggling in the muddy water before a rescue boat was deployed towards him. Rescuers managed to reach him in time, pulled him out of the river, and brought him safely back to the shore.
According to the police, Kumar lives with his wife and two children in Okhla. Alongside working as a dance teacher, he also takes up gardening work on the side to support his household.
During questioning, Kumar told the police that his income had dropped significantly over the past few months. The decline in his earnings made it difficult for him to afford the monthly installments for an iPhone he had purchased.
The mounting financial stress and inability to clear the pending installments eventually drove him to attempt suicide at the ghat, police stated.
Following the rescue, police personnel counselled Kumar regarding the situation. Officials also contacted his family, calling his wife and brother-in-law to the police station, after which he was allowed to return home with them.
