Light Rain Hits Delhi Localities; Showers Expected to Pause From Wednesday

Several parts of Delhi, including Janakpuri, Naraina, and Palam, recorded light to moderate rainfall on Sunday, bringing slight relief from the heat. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that while light showers are likely to continue across the national capital on Monday and Tuesday, the wet spell is expected to pause from Wednesday through August 29.
According to the weather department, Janakpuri recorded the highest rainfall among city stations between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm on Sunday at 28.5 mm, followed by Naraina with 21.5 mm. Palam logged 10.6 mm of rain, while Safdarjung, the city's base weather station, recorded 3.4 mm. Other monitoring stations across the capital also logged precipitation, including Lodhi Road with 2.7 mm, the Ridge with 0.8 mm, and Ayanagar with 0.6 mm.
The IMD has forecast light to moderate showers for Monday, while Tuesday is likely to see light to very light rain. After Tuesday, weather conditions are expected to remain dry through August 29, with no significant rainfall anticipated during that period.
The maximum temperature on Sunday settled at 33.9 degrees Celsius, which is near the normal mark for this time of the year. This was a decrease from the 35.2 degrees Celsius recorded a day earlier. However, humidity kept conditions uncomfortable in the afternoon, with the heat index, or feels-like temperature, reaching 41.9 degrees Celsius at 2:30 pm.
Daytime temperatures over the next two days are expected to hover between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius. Meteorologists noted that once the rain subsides after Tuesday, maximum temperatures across the city could rise by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius.
The minimum temperature on Sunday was recorded at 25.9 degrees Celsius, which is one notch below normal for the season. The IMD expects the minimum temperature on Monday to remain in the range of 24 to 26 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Delhi's air quality remained in the satisfactory category, with an Air Quality Index reading of 96.
