GSKV Khajuri Khas Students Go Without Regular Chemistry Teacher for Three Years

More than 200 Class XI and XII science students at GSKV Khajuri Khas, a Delhi government school in northeast Delhi's Khajuri Khas, have gone without a regular chemistry teacher for up to three academic years, according to a representation sent to the Directorate of Education.
The issue has caused serious concern among Class XII students preparing for their upcoming board examinations. Several students stated that they completed Class XI without a chemistry teacher and have repeatedly approached the school principal for a solution without success.
According to the representation dated August 20, submitted by education activist and lawyer Ashok Agarwal, the school operates two science sections each in Classes XI and XII, with approximately 50 to 55 students in each section. Over 200 students across the four sections are currently affected by the absence of structured instruction in the core science subject.
A Class XII science student stated that the issue had persisted since she entered Class XI. She noted that students had submitted multiple written applications to school authorities regarding the lack of a teacher, but their requests were neglected. Another Class XII student highlighted that science students are losing critical classroom instruction time during their board examination year.
The representation noted that the prolonged absence of a teacher has severely affected academic preparation and could directly impact student performance in board examinations. Students reported studying independently to clear previous exams, which Agarwal noted raises concerns regarding academic standards and promotions.
In addition to the chemistry teacher shortage, the representation highlighted irregular biology classes at the school. One student claimed that the biology teacher attends the school for only about three days a week while teaching at another school during the remaining days.
An education department official acknowledged the long-standing issue, confirming that students have been without a regular chemistry teacher for at least three years. The official stated that recruitment postings for teacher positions are currently underway and that the department conducts regular drives to gather feedback from school heads to resolve shortages. The school principal could not be reached for comment.
