Electric Vehicles Make Up 7% of Delhi's New N1 Goods Vehicle Sales in 2025: CAQM

Electric vehicles accounted for 7% of all new N1 category large goods vehicle (LGV) registrations in New Delhi during 2025, according to data released by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). This makes electric power the second-largest fuel category in new sales, behind compressed natural gas (CNG).

Out of 14,712 new N1 LGVs sold in the capital during 2025, 1,026 were electric, while 13,646 were powered by CNG. Traditional fossil fuels saw minimal uptake in the segment, with diesel accounting for 35 sales and petrol recording four.

By the end of 2025, Delhi's overall active N1 fleet reached 1.06 lakh vehicles. Within this operational fleet, 1.03 lakh were CNG vehicles and 1,980 were electric, reflecting a sharp jump in electric adoption over the course of the year.

The CAQM noted that the sales figures show a distinct shift towards cleaner commercial transport in the city. The commission aims to phase out registrations of new fossil-fuel LGVs entirely.

Under transport classifications, N1 refers to commercial vehicles used for carrying goods that have a gross vehicle weight of up to 3,500 kg. The N2 category covers goods vehicles with a gross weight between 3,500 kg and 7,500 kg.

Speaking at a conference, CAQM member secretary Tarun Kumar Pithode said the data indicates that the transition towards cleaner transport is already under way in the capital, driven by rising EV penetration in new registrations while diesel sales remain low.
