DU Student Stabbed to Death at Tilak Nagar Home; Police Launch Hunt for Accused
A 21-year-old Delhi University student was stabbed to death inside her residence in West Delhi's Tilak Nagar area on Wednesday evening, allegedly by an acquaintance who was enraged over her speaking with another person, police said on Thursday.
The victim, identified as Muskan, was a second-year student at Delhi University's School of Open Learning. She lived with her family in a building located near Mangla Hospital. The suspect, identified as Aqib alias Imran, is an unemployed former gym trainer from the nearby area who is currently on the run.
According to the police investigation, the victim and the accused had known each other for about a year and a half. Investigators said the accused had allegedly been angry with the woman for the past two months after learning that she was talking to someone else. On Wednesday evening, he visited her home when she was alone. An argument broke out between them, after which he allegedly attacked her multiple times with a knife before fleeing the scene.
CCTV footage recovered from the area showed the suspect entering the residential building at approximately 5:40 pm. The crime came to light when the family's house help discovered the woman lying injured on the second floor of the building and alerted her family members.
A PCR call regarding the stabbing was received at the Tilak Nagar Police Station at 7:24 pm, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police Hareshwar V Swami. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. A post-mortem examination is scheduled to determine the precise nature and cause of the fatal injuries.
Crime and forensic teams were dispatched to inspect the scene, document evidence, and carry out photography. A murder case has been registered at the Tilak Nagar Police Station based on a formal complaint submitted by the victim's brother, who named Aqib alias Imran as the suspect.
Delhi Police have established approximately 15 dedicated teams to trace and apprehend the absconding accused. Officers are currently reviewing CCTV footage across multiple routes and conducting raids at several locations as part of the ongoing investigation.
