Delhi Police Deny Permission for Jantar Mantar Protest, Cite Section 163 BNSS

Delhi Police on Sunday announced that no permission has been granted to any individual or organisation to stage a protest or gathering at Jantar Mantar regarding reservation reforms, urging citizens not to assemble based on misleading posts circulating on social media.
The clarification from law enforcement followed several videos and messages that surfaced across digital platforms calling upon people to gather at the landmark site in the New Delhi district on Sunday.
Police stated that prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which replaced Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), remain actively in force across the New Delhi district. Under these provisions, protest marches, processions, demonstrations, and any assembly of five or more persons are strictly prohibited in the area.
Authorities advised citizens not to gather on the basis of online calls and asked the public to refrain from forwarding, sharing, or amplifying unverified content.
Delhi Police also warned that appropriate legal action will be initiated against those found creating, circulating, or disseminating fake or misleading information, appealing to residents to rely solely on verified details.
