Delhi Govt Plans 150 MBBS Seats at Indira Gandhi Hospital in Dwarka

The Delhi government has announced plans for a major, phased expansion of medical education capacity across the capital, including the addition of 150 undergraduate MBBS seats at a new medical college under construction alongside Indira Gandhi Hospital in Dwarka.
The overall expansion strategy encompasses undergraduate, postgraduate, and super-speciality courses. The government plans to implement the changes by building new medical institutions, enhancing the seat capacity of existing colleges, and introducing advanced medical programmes across Delhi.
Under the proposed initiative, two upcoming medical colleges are set to add a total of 300 undergraduate seats to Delhi's healthcare education system. In addition to the 150-seat facility being established adjacent to Indira Gandhi Hospital in Dwarka, another college being built next to Guru Gobind Singh Hospital is proposed to provide 150 MBBS seats.
Existing institutions will also see an increase in undergraduate admissions. The MBBS intake at Dr BSA Medical College and Hospital is slated to expand from 125 to 200 seats. In the dental stream, the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) intake at the Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences (MAIDS) is proposed to increase from 50 to 70 seats.
The expansion plan also covers postgraduate medical education. Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) is proposed to add 35 postgraduate seats, raising its total PG capacity from 260 to 295 seats. MAIDS is set to nearly double its postgraduate intake from 22 to 42 seats, while Dr BSA Medical College is slated to introduce 24 new postgraduate seats.
Delhi Health and Family Welfare Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh stated that the phased expansion across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes is designed to strengthen the availability of trained medical professionals in the capital.
