Two held after speeding Thar kills motorcyclist on Rajokri flyover

A 34-year-old motorcyclist heading to Noida for work was run over and killed by a speeding Mahindra Thar SUV on the Rajokri flyover in southwest Delhi, leading to the apprehension of a software tester and the detention of his colleague. The Delhi Police arrested the driver, 30-year-old Apurv Singh, and detained Sagar Saha, 29, who was a passenger in the vehicle during the fatal collision.

The victim, Sarthak Mattoo, was a resident of Gurugram who worked for an event management company. According to his family, Mattoo was traveling to Noida for work on his motorcycle and was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. He would have celebrated his 34th birthday on Saturday.

The incident occurred when the speeding Mahindra Thar overtook Mattoo's two-wheeler, hit the vehicle, and crushed him under its wheels. The occupants of the SUV fled the spot immediately after the collision. A passerby witnessed the accident, used Mattoo's phone to contact his colleague, and alerted the Police Control Room (PCR).

A PCR vehicle transported Mattoo to the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre in Vasant Kunj, where medical personnel declared him dead on arrival.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Amit Goel stated that investigators analyzed multiple CCTV camera feeds to map the SUV's route. The police traced the Mahindra Thar, which was registered to a Bengaluru-based private company and leased to Saha, who is employed with the firm.

Police picked up Saha in Gurugram on Thursday. Saha informed investigators that his colleague, Singh, a resident of Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh who works as a software tester, was driving the vehicle. Saha was seated in the front passenger seat during the crash.

The police seized the Mahindra Thar and apprehended Singh on Saturday. Singh underwent a medical examination at Safdarjung Hospital. Mattoo's father, Surender Mattoo, questioned the timing of the medical tests, asking how police could find traces of alcohol after a 50-hour delay. The Delhi Police denied any delay, stating that blood tests were conducted immediately upon apprehension.

According to the accounts given by Singh and Saha to the police, they overtook the motorcycle before the two-wheeler hit the car, causing the rider to fall. A police investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident.
