Two arrested after Thar runs over Noida-bound motorcyclist in Vasant Kunj

A 34-year-old motorcycle rider heading to Noida for work was killed after a speeding Mahindra Thar hit and ran over him at the Rajokri flyover in Vasant Kunj, South Delhi, on June 25. The Delhi Police have arrested both the vehicle's driver, Apurv Singh, and the lessee, Sagar Saha, in connection with the fatal crash.

The victim, Sarthak Mattoo, was a Gurugram resident who worked with an event management company. The incident occurred around 6:30 am while Mattoo was commuting from DLF Gurugram to Noida for official work.

According to the police, the speeding Thar took a sudden turn and collided with Mattoo's motorcycle, leaving him critically injured. The driver of the vehicle fled the spot immediately after running over him.

A passerby noticed the crash, secured Mattoo's unlocked phone, and used his call logs to contact one of Mattoo's office colleagues, who then informed the family. PCR personnel transported Mattoo to the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre, where doctors declared him dead.

During the investigation, the police traced the Thar to a Bengaluru-based private company. The vehicle was leased to Sagar Saha, a 29-year-old native of Bihar and an employee of the company posted in Bengaluru. Police tracked and arrested Saha.

During questioning, Saha told police that he was riding in the passenger seat while his friend, 30-year-old Apurv Singh, was driving the Thar. Police subsequently arrested Singh. A case was registered, and the vehicle was seized.

The victim's father, Surendra Mattoo, stated that Sarthak had left for work early in the morning without waking his parents. The family realized he had left when his mother noticed his motorcycle was gone. Surendra Mattoo questioned why the occupants of the Thar fled the scene instead of taking his critically injured son to the hospital.
