Rekha Gupta Questions AAP MLA in Delhi Assembly Over Decorum and Viral Video

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta raised the issue of women's dignity and the conduct of public representatives in the Delhi Assembly on Monday during the ongoing Monsoon Session. Speaking in the House, Gupta addressed AAP MLA Anil Jha following public attention surrounding a viral social media reel and called for elected officials to maintain proper decorum.

The debate occurred during a discussion focused on the Delhi government's flagship Lakshmi Yojana. Under this financial scheme, eligible women between the ages of 21 and 60 receive monthly financial assistance of Rs 2,500.

The Chief Minister's remarks were prompted by a reel that circulated on social media platforms showing Vats signing documents while wearing only his undergarments. The video raised questions regarding public propriety and appropriate conduct, particularly in the presence of women visiting representatives to seek recommendations and signatures under the financial assistance scheme.

Addressing Jha directly in the House, Gupta urged all legislators to maintain appropriate conduct when women visit the Assembly or approach MLAs for assistance under public schemes. She stated that derogatory remarks, indecent behaviour, and objectionable gestures towards women are inconsistent with democratic values and the dignity of the House, emphasizing that safeguarding women's dignity in public life is a collective responsibility for all elected representatives.
