7 Bangladeshi Nationals Held in Delhi for Overstaying Visas
Delhi Police have apprehended seven Bangladeshi nationals from Nabi Karim, Sarita Vihar, and Madanpur Khadar for allegedly overstaying their permitted 15-day stay limit on double-entry visas. The enforcement action was carried out during a targeted visa status verification drive aimed at identifying foreign nationals who violate immigration norms while staying in the capital.
The drive involved dedicated police teams conducting physical verifications across various hotels, guest houses, and other residential establishments accommodating foreign visitors throughout central Delhi. During the operation, police received a specific tip-off regarding Bangladeshi nationals who were allegedly residing in the city without valid visa coverage.
Based on the intelligence, officers initially conducted a search in the Nabi Karim area, where they located and held Mohammad Nazrul Islam Foisal, aged 26. During questioning by investigators, Foisal allegedly disclosed the presence and whereabouts of several other Bangladeshi nationals who were residing in different parts of the city.
Acting on the information gathered from Foisal, police teams organized follow-up raids at multiple locations in Sarita Vihar and Madanpur Khadar. These raids led to the apprehension of six additional Bangladeshi nationals. Police personnel thoroughly scrutinised the travel credentials, passports, and visa papers of all seven individuals held during the operations.
The verification confirmed that all seven individuals had entered India on double-entry visas but had exceeded the strictly permissible 15-day stay duration for a single visit. Police noted that an examination of their records revealed no prior criminal involvement for any of those apprehended. Their passports, visas, and mobile phones were formally taken into police possession.
Following their apprehension, all seven individuals were produced before the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO). The FRRO issued formal restriction orders and initiated deportation proceedings against them. Pending the completion of all necessary legal and administrative formalities, the seven Bangladeshi nationals have been shifted to the detention centre located at Sewa Dham in Shahzada Bagh.
