Heavy Rain Submerges Key Gurugram Roads, Administration Advises WFH and Online Classes

Severe waterlogging brought traffic to a standstill across several parts of Gurugram on Monday following an hour of intense rainfall, prompting the district administration to issue advisories for remote working and online classes.

The downpour left key transit hubs and arterial stretches heavily submerged. Among the most severely affected areas were Rajiv Chowk, IFFCO Chowk, Railway Road, Sector 5, Old Delhi Road, Mehrauli Road, and Basai Road. Water accumulation on major roads led to crawling traffic and severe disruption to daily commutes.

Visuals from across the city showed school buses stranded in deep water on inundated roads, while motorists were seen dragging their stalled vehicles through flooded corridors. In view of the widespread disruption and hazardous road conditions, the Gurugram administration asked private offices to allow their employees to work from home and directed schools to conduct classes through the online mode.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the intense rainfall across the region was caused by the interaction of two distinct air masses. Dry northerly winds blowing into the region collided with moisture-laden easterly winds flowing from the Bay of Bengal, triggered by a low-pressure system forming near West Bengal, resulting in intense thunderstorms and heavy precipitation.
