Delhi LG Directs Agencies to Boost Narela Security and Open Unused Parking
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Monday issued directions to the capital's civic and security agencies to coordinate on civic infrastructure, security in Narela, and urban parking management.
Speaking at a high-level coordination meeting, Sandhu called for a "whole of government" approach among departments to tackle issues that require joint ground action. The meeting brought together senior officials from the Delhi government, Delhi Police, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), and the Delhi Fire Service.
Narela received specific focus during the review. Sandhu directed the Delhi Police to enhance its presence and strengthen security across the fast-developing area. Concurrently, the MCD was instructed to upgrade local civic amenities. The push follows recent efforts to develop the locality, including the DDA's announcement last month of a 25 per cent discount on more than 1,200 ready-to-move flats in Narela under the Karmajeevi Awaas Yojana.
Parking management was another key issue addressed. The Lieutenant Governor instructed authorities to operationalise unused parking sites across Delhi at the earliest and highlighted the need to build more multi-level parking facilities to ease spatial pressure. The move aligns with the recently unveiled Delhi Master Plan 2047, which includes a unified transport and parking framework.
The meeting also evaluated joint coordination between the MCD and DDA regarding encroachment removal drives and fire preparedness, areas where administrative responsibilities overlap among civic bodies, land-owning agencies, and emergency services.
In addition, the MCD was directed to expedite ongoing vendor surveys and constitute Town Vending Committees without delay to demarcate and designate vending spaces across the city.
On child safety and education, Sandhu called for expanded outreach in schools and stronger ties between authorities, teachers, and students to support safety initiatives, including the enforcement of POCSO guidelines.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Secretary, the Delhi Police Commissioner, the Principal Secretary (Home), the DDA Vice Chairman, senior MCD officials, and the Principal Director of the Delhi Fire Service.
