Heavy Rain Hits Delhi, Causing Waterlogging in Chhatarpur, Burari, and CR Park
Heavy showers swept across several parts of Delhi on Monday morning, triggering waterlogging in neighbourhoods including Chhatarpur, Burari, C R Park, Alaknanda, and around the New Ashok Nagar Metro Station, while bringing relief from the previous day's sweltering humidity.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued red and orange alerts across the national capital, forecasting moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong surface winds reaching speeds of up to 40 kilometres per hour.
According to official data recorded by the weather office between 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., Chhatarpur received the highest rainfall in the city at 28 mm. Other parts of the capital also saw notable precipitation during this three-hour window, with Lodi Road logging 24.6 mm and Pitampura recording 18.5 mm of rainfall.
Elsewhere in the city, rainfall amounts remained relatively low during the morning hours. The Ridge observatory documented 5 mm of rain, while Mayur Vihar recorded 1.5 mm. Safdarjung, the city's base weather station, registered 1 mm, and Ayanagar logged 0.1 mm of rainfall.
The downpour was accompanied by strong gusts of wind that disrupted daily movement. Commuters navigating through inundated stretches took to social media platforms to report traffic snarls and accumulated water, with significant waterlogging observed around Burari, Alaknanda, C R Park, and the New Ashok Nagar Metro Station.
In terms of temperature, Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 27.8 degrees Celsius at Safdarjung on Monday morning, which was 1.4 degrees Celsius above normal for this period. The Ridge observatory recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the city at 24 degrees Celsius. The weather department projected that the maximum temperature for the day would settle at around 34 degrees Celsius.
