IMD Issues Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm Alerts Across Multiple States
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in New Delhi has issued a forecast predicting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across several states, with isolated very heavy downpours expected in parts of Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Uttarakhand. The weather department also warned of accompanying lightning and gusty winds in multiple regions.
Madhya Pradesh is projected to witness some of the most intense precipitation during the forecast period. The IMD indicated that isolated very heavy rain is likely in districts including Dindori, Balaghat, Narmadapuram, Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Mandla, Damoh, and Sagar. Additionally, other districts across the Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Chambal, Rewa, Shahdol, and Jabalpur divisions are expected to receive heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.
In Odisha, heavy rainfall is likely to continue across several districts until August 26 under the influence of the prevailing weather system. For Uttarakhand, the weather agency forecast isolated heavy rainfall through August 28, noting that certain areas may experience intense spells during this timeframe.
Weather warnings have also been issued for northern and southern parts of the country. In Jammu and Kashmir, the IMD warned of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 60 kmph at isolated locations over the next five days. Officials cautioned that vulnerable hilly areas in the region could face flash floods, landslides, and mudslides. In Kerala, a rain alert remains active in three districts on Tuesday as unsettled weather persists while the state enters the Onam festival period.
Across eastern and northeastern India, fairly widespread rainfall is expected over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim until August 28. Jharkhand is also forecast to experience fairly widespread rain through August 28, while Bihar is expected to see similar rainfall activity on August 25 and 26.
According to the IMD, active weather conditions and thunderstorm activity will persist across central, eastern, and northeastern regions as meteorologists continue monitoring prevailing systems.
