Four Drown in Yamuna Near Geeta Colony, One Body Recovered

Four people allegedly drowned while bathing in the Yamuna River near Yamuna Khadar in Geeta Colony, East Delhi, on Monday evening. The incident occurred around 7:20 p.m., triggering a major joint search and rescue operation by emergency agencies across the area.

According to local residents, the group entered the river to take a bath when they were suddenly swept away by the current. Emergency services were alerted immediately following the incident, prompting rapid deployment to the bank of the river.

A joint rescue effort was launched by the Delhi Police, the Delhi Fire Service, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and a local boat club. Authorities stated that search teams remained active late into the night, with multiple specialized units searching the waters and surrounding stretches of the riverbank.

Rescue personnel have recovered the body of one victim so far. Officials reported that the recovered individual appeared to be a man between 35 and 40 years of age. The identities of all four victims, including the deceased man, have not yet been established as official inquiries continue.

The drowning near Geeta Colony is part of a troubling series of similar incidents reported across the city this month. Earlier in the month, four Class X students drowned while bathing in the Yamuna River near Hiranki village in outer north Delhi. Their bodies were later retrieved following an extensive multi-day operation led by the Delhi Police, the NDRF, and other local rescue organizations.

In another recent case in the city, a seven-year-old boy named Rehan lost his life after slipping into a rainwater-filled pit near his residence in Samaypur Badli. Search and rescue operations near Geeta Colony remain ongoing as emergency personnel work to trace the three missing individuals.
