Delhi University Warns DUSU Polls May Be Cancelled Over Campaign Rule Violations

Delhi University has warned that the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections could be called off if it continues to receive complaints regarding candidates violating campaign regulations on the campus. The warning comes amid instances of candidates deploying large convoys and bringing luxury cars to the university, leading to traffic jams and violence in the run-up to the polls.

University officials met with DUSU office-bearers, representatives of various student organisations, and Delhi Police officers on Monday to review election arrangements and address alleged rule violations. The review meeting was held at the proctor's office.

The meeting was attended by senior police personnel, including the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of the north district, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Maurice Nagar police station, and a traffic inspector.

During the meeting, the proctor addressed issues previously discussed on July 16 and issued a warning to student representatives regarding non-compliance with regulations established by the Delhi High Court and the Lyngdoh Committee. Officials stated that failure to adhere to these rules had resulted in widespread disorder across the university campus.

Authorities specifically highlighted the use of luxury vehicles for election-related campaigning and flagged unauthorised parking by candidates along Chhatra Marg and University Road, which has caused severe traffic congestion in the area. The university clarified that candidates are prohibited from using more than five cars in any campaign convoy.

Under new guidelines issued following the meeting, the proctor's office will issue authorised vehicle stickers to all candidates. Any vehicle without an official sticker will be strictly barred from entering the Delhi University campus or any of its constituent colleges.
