Delhi Traffic Police Restrict Connaught Place Routes for BRICS Summit Rehearsal

Delhi Traffic Police announced traffic restrictions and diversions across several parts of the city on Tuesday, impacting routes in and around Connaught Place, in view of a motorcade rehearsal for the BRICS Summit 2026. The restrictions were scheduled to remain in place from 11am to 3pm on September 1.

The rehearsal was conducted ahead of the BRICS Summit scheduled to take place at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, from September 11 to 13. The traffic regulations covered more than 35 roads across central and south Delhi, with traffic being regulated at 22 designated diversion points.

In and around Connaught Place, vehicular movement towards C-Hexagon from Kasturba Gandhi Marg and Janpath was restricted during the four-hour operational window. Several other central Delhi corridors, including Barakhamba Road, Tolstoy Marg, Ashoka Road, and the Ranjeet Singh Flyover, were also among the routes affected by the motorcade drill.

Traffic was diverted at critical junctions based on the movement of the motorcade. At Dinesh Nandini Dalmia Chowk, traffic towards Mathura Road and Tilak Marg was not allowed, with motorists diverted through BSZ Marg, IP Marg, and Delhi Gate depending on their destinations.

Authorities also imposed traffic restrictions at Ram Charan Aggarwal Chowk and Mir Dard Chowk to manage congestion and guide vehicles away from the rehearsal paths.

The wider rehearsal corridor included prominent thoroughfares across central and south Delhi, such as Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Akbar Road, Tees January Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Subramania Bharti Marg, and Mathura Road.

Other major roads covered under the traffic plan included Moti Lal Nehru Marg, Dr Zakir Hussain Marg, Africa Avenue Road, Satya Marg, Shanti Path, Niti Marg, and Panchsheel Marg, where vehicular flow was regulated to facilitate the smooth movement of the summit convoy.
