Delhi Govt Orders Probe After 12-Year-Old East Vinod Nagar Schoolgirl Dies

The Delhi government has ordered an inquiry into the death of a 12-year-old schoolgirl after her family alleged that she was harassed by a teacher at her government school in East Vinod Nagar.

The Class VII student died on August 27. Her family approached the Kalyanpuri police station on Monday, alleging that the teacher had scolded and beaten her during class on July 22, after which her health deteriorated.

According to the family, the student was scolded on July 22 for not carrying a book and was made to stand at the back of the classroom. Her mother alleged that the incident left the girl severely distressed and depressed, adding that no one from the school visited her while she was ill.

Following the allegations, Education Minister Ashish Sood announced that the teacher has been transferred with immediate effect to ensure a fair and unhindered investigation into the matter.

Police stated that the girl had a medical history of epilepsy. Officials noted that no complaint had been filed against the teacher between the alleged July 22 incident and the date of the girl's death. The family cremated the child on August 27, the day she died, before lodging their complaint with the police on Monday.
