Delhi Traffic Police Form Driver Committee to Ease Chhattarpur Congestion

Delhi Traffic Police has formed a committee comprising representatives of auto-rickshaw and e-rickshaw drivers to tackle chronic congestion around Chhattarpur Metro station, CDR Chowk, and Mandir Wali Road in Mehrauli.
The measure was introduced after the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Southern Range, inspected the stretch and interacted with operators of public transport vehicles servicing the corridor.
The inspection revealed that heavy pedestrian movement alongside a continuous flow of autos, e-rickshaws, and Gramin Seva vehicles was choking access roads. Commuters routinely depend on these transport modes to reach and depart from Chhattarpur Metro station, creating severe pressure on the surrounding road network, particularly during peak travel hours.
Traffic officials flagged the haphazard stopping and unregulated parking of autos and e-rickshaws as a leading contributor to the gridlock, as stationary vehicles frequently blocked carriageways and hindered pedestrian movement.
Under the new plan, the committee of driver representatives will actively coordinate with fellow drivers to establish orderly operations. The committee is tasked with ensuring that all autos and e-rickshaws are parked strictly in a single line, leaving the main road clear for vehicular traffic and keeping walkways unobstructed for commuters.
Alongside the self-regulation measure, the Traffic Inspector for Mehrauli and deployed police personnel have been directed to maintain a constant vigil over the stretch. Officers have been instructed to take strict enforcement action against any vehicle operators who violate designated parking regulations or traffic norms in the area.
