Delhi Medical Association Issues Alert as City Records 2,308 H1N1 Cases
The Delhi Medical Association has issued a health advisory urging residents across New Delhi to wear masks, avoid crowded places, and seek prompt medical attention as H1N1 cases continue to rise in the national capital.
According to an official statement issued on Tuesday, Delhi has recorded 2,308 H1N1 cases so far in 2026. Cumulative infections across both Influenza A and Influenza B strains have crossed the 3,000 mark.
Health Minister Pankaj Singh noted that H1N1 is currently the predominant influenza subtype circulating in the city. The current trend marks a shift from last year, when H3N2 was the dominant strain in Delhi.
In its advisory, the DMA outlined several preventive steps to curb the transmission of the virus. The association urged the public to observe strict respiratory hygiene by covering their mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, washing hands frequently, and avoiding touching the eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
Residents have also been advised to maintain physical distance from individuals showing signs of H1N1 or influenza-like illness, and to refrain entirely from spitting in public places.
The medical association recommended that anyone experiencing flu symptoms wear an N95 mask. Healthcare professionals working in clinics, hospitals, and outpatient departments have likewise been advised to wear masks during patient interactions.
The DMA also cautioned the public against self-medication, warning residents not to take antibiotics or antiviral drugs without consulting a qualified doctor.
