Delhi Court Remands Satyendar Jain, Ex-DJB CEO to 14-Day Judicial Custody

A Delhi court on Wednesday sent former Minister Satyendar Jain, former Delhi Jal Board Chief Executive Officer Udit Prakash Rai, and three other individuals to 14-day judicial custody in connection with an alleged corruption case concerning the tendering process for sewage treatment plant projects of the Delhi Jal Board.

Special Judge Dig Vinay Singh also remanded Ankit Srivastava, a former contractual consultant with the Delhi Jal Board, to two days of police custody. A reasoned order from the court is currently awaited.

During the proceedings on Wednesday, the court issued a notice to the Anti-Corruption Branch regarding a bail plea moved by counsel representing Mr. Jain.

The Anti-Corruption Branch arrested Mr. Jain, Mr. Rai, Mr. Srivastava, and three other accused on Tuesday night following an investigation into the matter. The other individuals arrested and named in the case are private persons Nagendra Yadav, Raja Kumar Kurra, and Pankaj Verma.

The corruption case was originally registered in May 2024 based on a formal complaint lodged by the Directorate of Vigilance. The complaint alleged large-scale irregularities, criminal conspiracy, and the manipulation of tender conditions in the tendering process linked to the augmentation and upgradation of sewage treatment plants under the Delhi Jal Board.
