CBI Arrests I&B Ministry Official in Delhi Over Rs 10 Lakh Bribe

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested an internal financial advisor posted in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in New Delhi for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh through his wife. The arrest was made in connection with clearing a contract renewal file for a private company.

The accused officer, identified as Sandeep, is a 2020-batch officer of the Indian Civil Accounts Service. He was serving as a deputy controller of accounts and internal financial advisor in the ministry at the time of the incident.

According to the central probe agency, the officer initially demanded a bribe of Rs 15 lakh from a businessman to process the renewal file of the company's contract, which was pending before him. Following negotiations between the parties, the alleged bribe amount was reduced and settled at Rs 10 lakh in exchange for expediting the official paperwork.

A CBI spokesperson stated that after the negotiation, the accused agreed to accept the Rs 10 lakh payment from the complainant to expeditiously process the pending renewal file.

Acting on the complaint, the investigative agency laid a trap on Tuesday. During the operation, the agency caught Sandeep accepting the Rs 10 lakh bribe through his wife.

Officials stated on Wednesday that the agency has initiated further legal proceedings in connection with the bribery case.
