Crime Branch Arrests Man Linked to Bishnoi-Malik Gang in ₹2 Crore Extortion Case

The Delhi Police Crime Branch has formally arrested a 40-year-old man at its Dwarka office after apprehending him in the Rani Bagh area in connection with a ₹2 crore extortion case linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi-Randeep Malik gang, officials said on Saturday.
The accused, identified as Amarjeet alias Amar, had been absconding after a case was registered at the Maurya Enclave police station in April.
According to Special Commissioner of Police HGS Dhaliwal, a police team acted on specific intelligence and confirmed Amarjeet's presence at Multani Mohalla in Rani Bagh around 5 pm on August 20. Amarjeet noticed the police team and attempted to flee, but officers chased and caught him before bringing him to the Crime Branch in Dwarka for his formal arrest.
Police said the case began when a complainant approached authorities alleging he had received threatening calls and messages from a person claiming to be Randeep Malik of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The caller demanded ₹2 crore to be paid in cryptocurrency, shared a payment link for the transfer, and threatened to kill the complainant and his family if the demand was not met. The complainant handed over the chat records and messages to the police.
Investigators established that Amarjeet had links to the Lawrence Bishnoi and Randeep Malik gangs and played a role in identifying the extortion target. Proceedings under Section 84 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita were initiated against him after his interim bail plea was dismissed by the Delhi High Court.
Amarjeet, a resident of Trinagar in northwest Delhi, is educated up to Class 10 and previously worked at a mobile phone market in Karol Bagh. Police stated he had also been involved in the illicit liquor trade until April this year, after which he went underground following the registration of the extortion case.
