31-Year-Old MSc Student Dies by Suicide at IIT Delhi Campus in South Delhi

A 31-year-old student pursuing a Master of Science degree at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi died by suicide on the south Delhi campus on Saturday morning, police officials said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Amit Goel stated that the police control room received a call around 8:33 am reporting that a student had jumped from the sixth floor of the Lecture Hall Complex at the IIT Delhi campus. The call was transferred to the Kishangarh police station, which holds territorial jurisdiction over the area.
A police team reached the spot and shifted the injured individual to the IIT Delhi campus hospital, where an attending doctor declared him brought dead. During the initial inquiry, the deceased was identified as a 31-year-old student from the M.Sc. Physics department at the institute.
A crime scene investigation team and a forensic science laboratory team visited the site to inspect the area and collect evidence. According to police officers, subsequent inquiries established that the student entered the IIT Delhi campus through the main gate around 8 am. He proceeded to the Lecture Hall Complex, took a lift to the sixth floor, and jumped from the front side of the building.
Investigators reported finding no external injury marks other than those resulting from the fall. Police did not recover any suicide note from the scene. A mobile phone found in the student's pocket was seized and will be examined as part of the legal procedure.
DCP Goel said that authorities are obtaining counselling records and related information from the institute to verify the facts, while further legal proceedings continue under the law.
An IIT Delhi official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident and noted that the Delhi Police are conducting an investigation into the matter.
This marks the second alleged suicide reported at the IIT Delhi campus since March, when a 19-year-old first-year BTech student died by suicide at an on-campus apartment, prompting police to register an abetment case.
