CBI Arrests Man Accused of Posing as Lok Sabha Staffer After Decade on the Run

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a man who had been absconding for nearly a decade after allegedly impersonating a Lok Sabha Secretariat employee to cheat a job seeker in New Delhi.
The accused, identified as Jitendra Pathak, was tracked down and arrested in Ludhiana, Punjab, on August 19 following an operation launched by the agency.
The CBI had originally registered the case on July 13, 2009, against Pathak and other individuals. He was accused of cheating a private person of Rs 50,000 by falsely promising to secure him a job in Parliament.
Following the investigation, the CBI filed a chargesheet against Pathak and another accused person in December 2009. However, Pathak failed to appear before the court during the trial proceedings and went into hiding shortly after the chargesheet was submitted.
Despite sustained efforts by the investigative agency to locate and apprehend him, Pathak remained untraceable for years. After the completion of all required legal formalities, the trial court declared him a proclaimed offender on September 28, 2016.
The agency kept the search active and recently received specific intelligence that Pathak was residing in Ludhiana. Acting on the information, CBI officials mounted a targeted operation that led to his arrest after nearly ten years on the run.
