31-Year-Old Techie Beaten to Death by In-Laws in Delhi's Nihal Vihar

A 31-year-old software engineer was allegedly beaten to death by his wife's relatives at his residence in Laxmi Park, Nihal Vihar, on Friday following a matrimonial dispute. Delhi Police have detained four individuals in connection with the fatal assault.

The victim, identified as Vinay Gupta, worked as a software engineer with Adobe. According to police, a dispute broke out between Gupta and his wife on Friday morning. His wife allegedly contacted her family, who then came to the couple's Nihal Vihar residence and attacked Gupta.

Gupta sustained critical injuries during the assault and succumbed to them while being transported to the hospital. Police have registered a case under Sections 103(1) (murder) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Gupta's father, Premchand, said the disagreement was minor and that he initially believed the relatives had come to speak peacefully. However, when Gupta arrived home, the group pounced on him. Premchand suffered a fractured thumb while attempting to intervene in the assault.

The victim's mother alleged that the attack was a calculated effort to kill her son. She stated that the relatives choked Gupta, slammed him to the ground, and stomped on his chest. She also claimed that the residence's security cameras were switched off at the exact time of the assault.

Gupta's brother, Pradeep, stated that he reached the house shortly after the altercation and found his brother in critical condition, but Gupta passed away on the way to the hospital.

Police said Gupta had married his wife, a resident of Budh Vihar, three-and-a-half years ago, and the couple had four-month-old twins. The four detained individuals are being questioned to determine their specific roles in the attack as the investigation progresses.
