Two Arrested for Gang-Raping Minor in Moving Bus Boarded at Pari Chowk
A 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped inside a moving sleeper bus by its driver and conductor after boarding the vehicle at Pari Chowk in Greater Noida on the night of August 4, police said. Both accused individuals have been arrested.
According to investigators, the Class 11 student from Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh had left her home following an argument with her mother and took a bus intending to visit her cousin in Noida's Sector 63. Amid heavy rain at around 9 pm, she mistakenly disembarked at Pari Chowk in Greater Noida, approximately 25 kilometres away from her intended destination.
While she searched for transport, a sleeper bus pulled up near her. The conductor allegedly claimed that the bus was heading towards Sector 63 and offered to drop her off. The teenager boarded the bus based on his assurance.
Police stated that the bus was not operating on a regular passenger route that evening. It had developed a technical fault earlier and was taken to a workshop in Surajpur, Greater Noida, for repairs. The driver and conductor collected the bus from the Surajpur workshop at around 5 pm, started driving at around 9 pm, and picked up the victim at Pari Chowk before travelling toward Delhi.
The teenager was allegedly assaulted by both men during the journey along the route. She was subsequently abandoned along Ring Road near Kashmere Gate in Old Delhi, more than 40 kilometres away from where she boarded. From there, the girl took an auto-rickshaw to the Kashmere Gate police station to report the incident.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Niharika Bhatt said Delhi Police registered a First Information Report immediately without raising jurisdictional issues. The victim was taken for a medical examination, which confirmed rape. Following directions from the Child Welfare Committee, she was later reunited with her father.
Using CCTV footage, investigators tracked down the sleeper bus within hours. Police arrested the driver, Kuldeep (39), and the conductor, Sandeep (26), both residents of Kanpur, from a parking area in Timarpur, north Delhi. The bus was seized, and police conducted potency tests on both accused.
