One Dead, Three Injured as Building Collapses in Karol Bagh's Regarpura

A labourer died and three others sustained injuries when a two-storey building collapsed during demolition work on Pyare Lal Road in the Regarpura area of Karol Bagh on Friday morning.

The incident took place at around 11:15 am while workers were engaged in demolishing an old structure. According to police, the building suddenly caved in during the demolition, trapping the labourers who were working on the site.

Local residents alerted authorities following the collapse, prompting police and fire service personnel to rush to the spot and launch rescue operations.

Police identified the deceased worker as Sheikh Shamshad, who succumbed to his injuries. His body was shifted to the mortuary at Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC) Hospital for further procedures.

Among the injured was Mohammad Ayub, who sustained a serious head injury along with a fracture in his right hand. Medical personnel initially provided emergency treatment before referring him to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where doctors stated his condition to be critical. Two other labourers also suffered injuries in the accident.

A preliminary enquiry revealed that the property owners had hired a private contractor to carry out the demolition work. Police stated that the owner of the old structure had not obtained the necessary permission from the concerned municipal agency before initiating the demolition work.
