ECI Extends Delhi Electoral Roll Revision Schedule, Draft Roll on Aug 31

The Election Commission of India has revised the schedule for the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls across Delhi, pushing the publication of the draft electoral roll to August 31. This marks a one-week postponement from the previously scheduled date of August 24.
Following this third extension of the revision timeline in the city, the final electoral roll is now scheduled to be published on November 4 instead of October 27. An official stated that the extension was required because authorities needed additional time to carry out the rationalisation and rearrangement of Delhi's approximately 13,000 polling stations.
While the publication timeline has shifted, the poll panel has not extended the window for submitting enumeration forms, which officially closed on August 17. The month-and-a-half-long verification exercise had commenced on June 30.
During this period, over 47 lakh of Delhi's 1.5 crore registered voters were not verified. Officials identified the frequent shifting of voters away from their registered addresses as a primary reason for the verification gap. The upcoming draft electoral roll will feature the names of all registered voters whose credentials have been successfully verified.
The timeline for subsequent stages has also been adjusted accordingly. The window for citizens to file claims and objections has been rescheduled from the earlier window of August 24 to September 23 to a new period spanning August 31 to September 30.
Additionally, the notice phase and the disposal of claims and objections will now take place between August 31 and October 29, replacing the previous timeframe of August 24 to October 22.
