75-Year-Old Musician Found Dead in Govindpuri Extension Home

A 75-year-old musician living alone was found dead inside his residence in south Delhi's Govindpuri Extension early on August 15, after neighbours alerted the police upon noticing a foul smell.
The deceased, identified as Rabi Dey, was a classical music teacher who took classes in nearby Chittaranjan Park. His body was found in a partially decomposed state inside the house.
Dey was a familiar figure in the neighbourhood, where residents remembered him sitting near the entrance of the building and sharing jokes. Neighbours initially assumed he was away visiting his sons when he was not seen at his regular spot.
The discovery occurred after residents detected an unbearable stench emanating from the flat in the four-storey building. Manisha Batra, a 35-year-old resident of the building, stated that her eight-year-old daughter first showed signs of distress over the odour, avoiding the bathroom and insisting on wearing a face mask.
Batra recalled that Dey had previously offered to teach her daughter music free of charge.
The incident in Kalkaji occurred alongside another recent case in the area involving an elderly man who died living in isolation.
