DMRC Plans Feasibility Study for Keshav Puram-Rohini Sector 34 Double-Decker Corridor

DMRC Plans Feasibility Study for Keshav Puram-Rohini Sector 34 Double-Decker Corridor

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has officially floated a tender to conduct a feasibility study for a proposed 16.3-kilometre integrated double-decker flyover-cum-metro corridor. This corridor is planned to connect Keshav Puram and Rohini Sector 34. The study, which is expected to be completed in six months, will assess the viability of the fully elevated corridor designed to improve transit connectivity in the Rohini area.

The feasibility study for the integrated flyover is estimated to cost around Rs 2 crore. According to a DMRC official, a tender has been floated to rope in a consultancy service for conducting the study. The proposed Keshav Puram-Rohini Sector 34 corridor is part of the DMRC's Phase-V(B) expansion. It is one of seven proposed expansions whose final approval is currently awaited.

If the project is found feasible, it will become the city’s fourth double-decker flyover. The design of the double-decker viaduct allows vehicles to run on the lower deck while metro trains run on the upper deck. Currently, three such double-decker flyovers are under construction in Delhi. Meanwhile, Delhi’s first 1.4-kilometre-long double-decker viaduct, located between Bhajanpura and Yamuna Vihar on the Pink Line, is expected to be fully operational by the end of this year.

The proposed Keshav Puram-Rohini Sector 34 corridor is planned to be fully elevated and will feature 12 stations. The route is set to connect several key localities in the region, including West Shalimar Bagh, East Pitampura, Rohini Sector 16, Delhi Technological University, and Rohini Sector 29.

Out of the 12 proposed stations along the corridor, three will offer interchange facilities to help commuters switch to other existing lines. These interchange stations are planned at Keshavpuram on the Red Line, North Pitampura on the Pink Line, and Rohini Sector 34 on the Red Line.
