Delhi University sets up panel to review seat increases for one-year PG courses

The University of Delhi on Friday constituted a high-level committee to examine requests from various departments seeking an increase in the number of seats in one-year postgraduate programmes for the 2026-27 academic session.

According to an official notification issued by the registrar’s office, the university has received multiple requests from different departments to enhance the intake of students in these newly introduced courses. The newly formed panel will evaluate the feasibility of these requests and recommend measures for implementing any proposed seat increases.

The committee is chaired by Professor K Ratnabali, the Dean of Academic Affairs. Other members of the panel include the Dean of Admissions, the Dean of Social Work, the Head of the Department of Chemistry, the Joint Registrar of Legal affairs, and the Deputy Registrar of recruitment and promotion, who will serve as the member secretary.

The university has directed the committee to submit its recommendations within 10 days, indicating that the administration intends to make an early decision before the admission process progresses further. Professor Ratnabali stated that the committee would meet soon to address the matter urgently.

The panel is tasked with examining the feasibility of increasing seats across the one-year postgraduate programmes and suggesting the modalities for implementation. This evaluation will take into account both the academic and administrative requirements of the university.

The university began the admission process for the first batch of its one-year postgraduate programmes earlier this month, with the first phase of registrations opening on July 4. Students who have completed a four-year undergraduate programme under the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework 2022 at the university are eligible to apply through a dedicated admission portal for these courses.

Until the 2025-26 academic session, the university offered only two-year postgraduate programmes. The new one-year postgraduate programmes will be officially introduced starting from the 2026-27 academic session.
